Astronaut captures ‘ghostly’ face in northern Africa
Astronauts aboard the International Space Station have captured a photo of Trou au Natron, a volcanic pit and soda lake in northern Chad that resembles a ghostly face. The photo shows the outline of the face, with the "eyes" and "nose" being cinder cones and the "mouth" covered in a mineral crust made of natron. Trou au Natron is situated southeast of Tarso Toussidé, a volcanic area with fumaroles and an active stratovolcano. It's one of several volcanic peaks in the Tibesti Mountains.
